20 February 2009 – Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad is now offering its customers the benefit of unlimited data roaming within participating OPCOs (Operating Companies) of TM International Berhad (TMI).

This promotion is a joint initiative with M1 in Singapore, Hello in Cambodia, XL in Indonesia, Dialog in Sri Lanka and Aktel in Bangladesh under the TMI umbrella of operating companies.

With Celcom’s Data Roaming Tariff (DRT), customers can now surf the internet, check e-mail and access their business network while away in these five countries for a flat rate tariff.

The daily unlimited DRT allows customers to enjoy the best tariff at RM38 when using the GPRS / 3G service while roaming with M1 in Singapore, Hello in Cambodia, XL in Indonesia, Dialog in Sri Lanka and Aktel in Bangladesh. The daily unlimited tariff is capped at RM38. No subscription is required, however, customers are advised to activate their roaming services prior to using this service.

The maximum RM38 per day is the best offer in the market, considering the hotel WiFi charges in those countries are around USD11 to USD31 per day (approximately RM38 – RM108 per day).

Celcom postpaid customers are eligible to use the DRT if their International Roaming or GPRS / 3G Data Service is activated. Customers will automatically be able to use the data service while roaming with these operators and will enjoy immediate benefits, hassle free and without the need to worry about costs.

“As a member of TMI group, Celcom is always looking for opportunities to work together with our fellow OPCOs to offer our customers the best services, at the very best value,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. “This service caters to the increasing demand of internet usage, especially for customers with heavy data roaming consumption.”

Dato’ Sri Shazalli also added that in December 2008, approximately 59 percent of Celcom’s 3.4 million outbound customers traveled to these five countries, which translates to an average of 167,000 customers monthly.

This service is open to Celcom postpaid customers until 31 July 2009. Customers must ensure that they are roaming within the participating networks to enjoy this promotion.
