New mobile 010 service for Malaysians
XOX Com Sdn. Bhd. (XOX) was awarded the 010 prefix by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) and will soon offer Malaysians a new mobile phone service.
The company, which is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), was awarded the prefix in early May and will be offering services within the next three months, it said. An MVNO buys network capacity from a network operator to offer its own branded mobile subscriptions.
XOX said that it will have full fledged service and will be competing with mobile network operators (MNO) Maxis, DiGi and Celcom. However, they did not reveal any pricing details yet.
Its managing director and chief executive officer Ng Kok Heng, said that XOX is currently refining its business model and researching market trends. “This is to ensure that XOX is a solid and comprehensive mobile operator that will benefit consumers in every way possible.”

Kuala Lumpur: XOX Com Sdn Bhd has become the country’s first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to be awarded the 010 prefix by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“Its a milestone for us here at XOX as we have been working very hard for the past two and a half years since September 2005 to have been awarded the 010 prefix, which we feel is very much equivalent to a national asset,” said its managing director and chief executive officer Ng Kok Heng Wednesday.
XOX said despite its technical classification as an MVNO, it is set to offer customers full-fledged services competitive with those from a mobile network operator.
“We are continually refining the business model, talking to industry players, researching and following market trends to ensure that XOX is a solid and comprehensive mobile operator that will benefit consumers in every way possible,” Ng said.
Ng is the company’s co-founder and a former consultant who has worked with mobile network operators like Celcom and SingTel.
As a “thick MVNO”, otherwise known as an enhanced service provider, XOX has direct control over the SIM (subscriber identity module) card, branding, marketing, and billing and customer care operations, and will only lease radio infrastructure from existing mobile network operators.
The company will also have its own operational support systems and business support systems.
“It is an opportune time for XOX to penetrate the market as the communications and multimedia industry has matured over the years and the government encourages competitive prices and good quality packages and services,” Ng said.
As at end-2007, the communications and multimedia market capitalisation contributed RM94 billion of the total Bursa Malaysia market capitalisation which stood at RM985 billion, XOX said.- Bernama.com
