The latest, Samsung’s i900 Omnia, are among the arsenal of phones available now that can take on the iPhone in a direct digital combat. Specifications of the phone have been released, but the i900 Omnia will only be revealed to the world at CommunicAsia in Singapore next week.

The device operates on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. It has a 3.2 inch wide QVGA screen. It supports WiFi and more importantly, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps. Roaming wouldn’t be a problem with quadband GSM. There is also an accelerometer that lets you rotate the screen to amuse your young nephews and nieces. Then there’s the FM radio with RDS too.

The i900 Omnia even comes with an optical mouse, something like a tiny touchpad. Music junkies would jump in joy because the phone offers a large internal memory. There will be two versions – an 8GB and a 16GB. To add to that, the phone also has a microSD slot that will allow up to an additional 16GB of storage space. That’s a maximum of 32GB of memory space, way more than anyone at the moment.

Samsung has included their TouchWiz software on the Windows Mobile device. And the clincher – the Samsung i900 Omnia sports a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with face and smile detection. As if that wasn’t enough, it is also capable of geotagging your photos with the built-in GPS. The Samsung i900 Omnia is expected to be available in Europe by this July.
